Web feeds nowadays play an important role in broadcasting your website for exposure and visibility. The old age of non-dynamic updates in websites have become obsolete and uncompetitive. As new dynamic websites such as blogs, forums and other CMS based websites have the advantage of sending their news feeds over a vast network of feeds directories and newsgroups. Since search engines love and adore frequently updated websites, traffic would seems to come in naturally in time.

I personally use an aggregator (XML feeds reader) to catch up on the latest, and I mean latest, news and updates from my favorite blogs and messageboards. Set to check every 10 minutes, my desktop instantly became a multi-channel-type-of-news-network in no time. Also, a good advantage of having a feeds aggregator is that you can choose which topics or posts you’d like to read or save for later. Once an aggregator downloads headers or feeds, they will not be downloaded again unless a post or news entry was edited. Aggregators use an XML’s key tag or subject tag to segregate feeds which are already downloaded. This can be closely described to an advance version of a web browser cookie. The only difference is that these advanced cookies have more information than your avarage subway chocolate chips.

As more and more people use web feeds to get updates on the latest information from their favorite newsgroups, blogs, websites and messageboards, I won’t be surprised if in the near future we’ll see these RSS coupons tagged inside out favorite magazines for paid subscription and getting the latest news instantly through basic celphone or handheld devices.
